Between Here......and Here

Hi everyone,

Heres a lovely exhibition i went to see in Sheffield last night by a group of Sheffield artists. It was based at the Clock Tower in the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield; a fabulous old Victorian piece of architectural splendour. Nice wine at the do too! "Between here....and here is an exhibition featuring the work of three painters whose work is based on ideas suggested by our built environment. Places, from great cities to isolated farms that evoke strong thoughts and feelings."

Sean Williams work is in a pointilist style using acrylic and gouache , of juxtaposed buildings and scenes. "Sean Williams chooses to draw attention to locations that may otherwise go unnoticed, but possibly reveal something about the psychology and lifestyles of the people who inhabit them. Rendered in a poitilist style, the colourful dots from an almost photographic image when viewed from a distance." Sean is also a member of a local artist group called anachron gen. Jonathan Wilkinsons work is detailed computer generated work, or scrfeenprinted in a 'blue print' style of local landmarks." The buildings Jonathan Wilkinson depicts are iconic for a variety of reasons. His exquisitely detailed drawings and prints are reminiscent of architectural plans and reveal little of his feelings towards the subject - the cool presentation serves to blur the edges between reality and the fantasy of the miniature world he creates." Warren Hayes work is in acrylic and uses strong geometric shapes, vectors and colours, inspired by the dynamics of the buildings around him. "Warren Hayes' stark colourful abstracts are a direct response to the modern metropolis, reflecting both it's impersonality and its particular beauty. Their composition is based on the repetition and symmetry of large-scale architecture, the subtle neon colouring echoes the city at night." Sorry, i couldn't find an image for Warrens' work, apart from the one on the flyer which probably wasn't representative of the bulk of his work.
